MRS. FUNMI FALANA SAN, FCI Arb.
She is the Managing Partner at Falana & Falana’s Chambers. She is a human rights activist and also holds the following qualifications: NCE, B.sc, LL.B,(Hons), B.L, LL.M, B.TH, and Notar. She attended University of Benin, Edo State, University of Lagos, Lagos and the Nigerian Law School. She was a law lecturer at the University of Lagos before she left for full time legal practice at Falana & Falana’s Chambers, Lagos.

Advancing Women Right Through Judicial Activism
She has taken a leading role in numerous initiatives aimed at advancing women's rights through judicial activism. Her efforts have included spearheading campaigns against discriminatory legislation affecting women, resulting in significant legal reforms. One notable example is the successful challenge of Regulation 124 of the Police Regulation (LFN), which previously mandated that female police officers seek written permission from their commander before marrying, while no such requirement existed for male officers. This discriminatory regulation was invalidated by the courts on grounds of unconstitutionality. excelled in their field.
Advancing Human Rights and Social Justice
Mrs. Funmi Falana's efforts transcend merely advocating for legislation favoring women's rights and equality; they also encompass addressing significant societal issues such as alleviating overcrowding in Nigerian prisons. This commitment is evident through her frequent visits to facilities like Kirikiri Maximum Prison, where she has not only conducted numerous visits but has also taken up various cases. She has actively pursued reforms in imprisonment laws, particularly aiming to prevent courts from sentencing pregnant women to prison. Such reforms aim to eliminate the distressing sight of children growing up in carceral environments.
Authorship and Public Engagement
Mrs. Falana has actively combated domestic violence by collaborating with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation on legislation aimed at protecting individuals from such abuse. She played a crucial role in simplifying the law into understandable English, accompanied by diagrams, and further translated it into Yoruba for wider accessibility among Lagos State residents. Additionally, she has provided legal representation for numerous victims of human rights violations in Nigeria and served as a member of the Osun State Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2011. Moreover, she holds the position of Senior Minister at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria.
